We believe that by unlocking our people’s creative potential, we will be able to create brand new businesses that will have an exponential impact on Mitsui and beyond. We do this by bringing together the best talent in design, engineering, product, and more to create bold new ventures from zero to launch.
We transform ideas into new ventures and provide the resources and expertise to light the way to a more creative future. We are human-centered in our approach and hands-on in our delivery.
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui") outlined its company's vision for the future in its "Long-Term Business Vision 2030" plan, which states its goal to evolve from "connecting" to "creating."
Moon's mission is to help Mitsui, a global trading and investment company, in its pursuit to become a more future-forward, entrepreneurial company.
We work to unlock the creativity of Mitsui's more than 44,000-strong global workforce to build innovative businesses that will have an exponential impact on the world.
At Moon, we share five values that focus our work. We think of them as practices that will help us tie our passions to our purpose and guide our daily effort to overall impact.
In order to create impact, we need to address real human needs. Oftentimes, organizations make decisions based on viability such as revenue potential. But money only comes when we really know our user — that’s what lets us solve a real problem or create an unexpected opportunity.
At Moon, we are in charge of our own destiny. We set our own goals and directives rather than wait for permission. This can be scary and requires us to venture into uncertain territory, but we learn to believe in our inner creativity to chart our own path.
A familiar process yields familiar results. In order to be innovative, we need to work in new ways. This won’t be comfortable, and that’s okay. At Moon, we push ourselves to try new tools, methods, and mindsets so that we can create new and valuable outputs.
The future is unknown. Not knowing the way means acknowledging that we don’t always have all the answers. To unlock creativity, we embrace our natural curiosity. It opens new points of view, inspires unlikely collaborations, and generates new ways of solving problems.
Instead of following a fixed approach to a final destination, we will be creating, testing, and iterating the way forward. We don’t spend much time making things perfect or presentable. Instead, we use small, quick experiments to set our direction and to
find new solutions.
Moon opened its first studio in the heart of Silicon Valley in 2018. With bright yellow features, natural lighting, and an open floor plan, the Palo Alto studio was designed to be a meeting place for close collaboration. Don’t be surprised to find Moon Mates in the Maker Space building prototypes, printing from the 3D printers, or taking a break from work to make art from clay.
Moon's Tokyo studio opened in January 2021 in the chic and bustling Omotesando area. The open floor plan building, with its white walls and flourishing plants dispersed throughout the spacious terrace, is an eye-catching sight in an area lined with unique stores and hidden restaurants. Designed for the post-COVID world, this four-floor studio is intentionally filled with lush greenery and natural materials, creating a space where every Moon Mate can freely think and create with their hands.
