We are looking for a Director, Marketing Communications who can lend their expertise in marketing and communications to Moon and its ventures. Based out of our Tokyo studio, you have a strong background in public relations, digital marketing, event marketing, community development and internal communications. You also have strong experience leading and managing teams – fostering their continued growth and development as well as supporting them to achieve their individual, team and company goals.
You have the experience and confidence to deliver meaningful results while providing strategic executive and stakeholder counsel with diplomacy and finesse. You are proactive and creative offering up marketing and communications plans and execute on them based on the unique needs of our ventures. You also have experience working on internal communication campaigns and channels such as newsletters, intranet and events.
What You’ll Do at Moon
- You will be responsible for internal and external communications promoting Moon Creative Lab and its offerings
- You will lead and manage a team of marketing and communications professional based out of our Tokyo studio
- You will take the lead in developing the strategy and execution of Moon’s events (in-person and virtual)
- You will work alongside venture teams planning and executing on marketing and communications campaigns that may include growth marketing, digital marketing and PR.
- You will work closely with the Palo Alto-based Marketing and Communications team on global announcements and proactively plan and execute on plans to support them in Japan
The Must-Haves
- You have a minimum of 9+ years’ relevant experience in marketing and communications in Japan; in- house and/or agency experience required
- You have extensive knowledge of public relations, marketing, social media, and event management
- You excel at managing multiple projects dealing with disparate audiences
- You are bilingual in English and Japanese and are comfortable working with global teams
- You are a communicator in Japanese and can craft compelling messaging for use in press releases, messaging documents, press presentations, bylines, blogs, social media posts and FAQs
- You have managed a team of employees in your current or previous roles
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience; MBA or advanced degree a plus

- You have worked with great success with startups to deliver top tier media results
- In Moon and each venture, it is also important to build a community with people who will engage, not just an audience. Experience in successfully launching a small but enthusiastic community can be a tremendous help!
- If you have ever arranged an event or seminar, you know that details and quality matter
- You are comfortable to work across languages and cultures
- You like to travel for business and you find traveling between Moon offices (Silicon Valley and Tokyo) particularly exciting
